When is it that we begin birthing our second child? When do we start growing our familes? Is it the moment that we conceive? Is it the moment we bring he or she into the world? The moment that we know we want more than one?

We already know the layered love that it will bring, not only to our hearts, but all the things it will mean to that first child of ours. The one that still clings to our knees. That scrappy first born that wants to be scooped up and held when sad. It is a tapestry of hope and changes.

The birth of a larger family....what does that even mean? It often comes to us in and out of dreams. It grows from the small tendrils of love born with our first.... Yet, that moment of birth, that welcoming of the second and all the changes it will bring, when does it come?

Our human capacity to love knows no bounds. The mother's heart is as soft as a feather and as heavy as tombstone. We come to see that our lives aren't defined by single moments but the endings that overlap with beginnings –we come to know that birth is both a "hello" and a "goodbye"; and all the heartache and deep unconditional love in between.

So when do we birth our second child? Its a million, trillion seconds of a thousand different things. But we know our hearts grow bigger, that somehow there is enough space.

Enough room.

More than enough love for it all.
